Many tourists consider traveling to Europe during the summer months of June – September, but autumn’s cooler temperature, colorful leaves and diverse culinary choices can also charm visitors of the blue continent.
Here are several events and attractions you can visit across Europe during autumn.
1. Amsterdam, Netherlands
Amsterdam offers a wide array of activities during autumn, such as Amsterdam Marathon, an annual marathon in Amsterdam in the Netherlands since 1975. There is also Amsterdam Dance Event, held between Oct. 18 and 22, is the largest electronic club festival in the world but also the foremost conference of its kind, where experts in the field discuss the industry’s future. In November, the city holds Museumnacht, when 55 of top Amsterdam’s museums open after hours late into the night
2. Copenhagen, Denmark
Tourists can celebrate Halloween in Copenhagen’s Tivoli Garden, which is a high point of the city calendar when the theme park is transformed into a spooky wonderland. As the temperature going low, another destination in the city include a visit to Torvehallerne market, for a seasonal local produce, mulled wine and hot chocolate.
3. Dublin, Ireland
Ireland is one of the countries in the world to have a public holiday for Halloween, or Samhain, its original Gaelic name. The holiday on 31st October is celebrated with music, dance, and spooky fancy dress parades and parties in Dublin’s many pubs and bars.
4. Munich, Germany
Munich is a fantastic year-round destination and is famous for its historic buildings, the glockenspiel, and of course, the Oktoberfest, a destination for artisan and craft beer lovers. Held in the last week of September and the first week of October, the Oktoberfest also offers numerous attractions, such as amusement rides, side stalls, games and a wide variety of traditional Bavarian foods.
5. Alba, Italy
The city of Alba in Piedmont is the truffle capital of Italy, and each year during the months of October and November, the town celebrates its beloved produce with a plethora of entertaining events. Many concerts, food markets, races, sports, food fairs, cultural programs, and wine tasting opportunities complement Alba White Truffle Festival, offering visitors a one-of-a-kind cultural and culinary experience. This year, the festival runs from October 7 to December 3.
6. Transylvania, Romania
The iconic Bran Castle that towers over Transylvania, dating back to the 14th century, once held Vlad the Impaler captive, and later become the notorious inspiration for Bram Stoker’s 1893 novel, Dracula. The castle hosts an annual Halloween party for 1000 guests, with traditional gourmet food, music, a costume competition and optional tours of the winding tunnels.
7. Paris, France
During autumn, Paris holds Jazz a la Villette, an 11-day festival in September that has experimental music, tribute concerts and kids programming in and around Parc de la Villette. The first Saturday in October is Nuit Blanche (or White Night), a 7 pm-to-7 am art extravaganza when galleries and museums stay open. October also has La Fete des Vendanges de Montmartre (Grape Harvest festival), which honors the fruits of the only vineyard in Paris. There is also Festival d’Automne in Paris, from September to December, over 40 venues showcase the best in theater, music, dance, film and visual arts.
